Judging by the state of its rootball — smooth and debris-free — this tree fell quite a while ago. The roots have taken on the look of a sanded sculpture…it was a beautiful surprise during a recent hike.

This challenge was a tough one for me because a weekend Nor’easter kept me housebound, and as I looked through past photos I didn’t see many with the perspective of descending steps (maybe because I don’t like heights???).

But then I saw this one: I thought the mushrooms looked like a climbing wall…an insect version! 🙂
