I missed last week’s photo challenge: blur, so I wanted to participate this week.

Yesterday I went out for a walk to my favorite local pond. I had my regular lens on my camera, good for taking flowers along the way.

When I got to the pond, I watched a single goose fly over my head and land in the pond. That goose was immediately chased by a single swan. I captured these photos as best I could with my regular lens. No time to change lenses. Boy, did I wish I had my zoom lens on the camera at that moment!

Last week I did have my zoom lens. From a distance, I watched a dog playing at the beach…such joy!

If you watch the news, you are probably aware of the terrible weather the U.S. has been experiencing this winter. I live in New England, where we are close to setting the record for the snowiest winter we have ever had!

I’m hoping the reward for dealing with this debilitating winter and stupendous snowfall will be a lovely temperate spring and a sunny beautiful summer!

The beach is full of textures, from wood pilings to water and sand.

Wood Piling

Weathered Ocean Piling

The sand alone encompasses a variety of textures: from soft wet sand that slips between your toes as you walk barefoot to hard-packed sand that feels like cement when you walk on it. Then there’s dry sand that sticks to everything! Some people don’t like that at all so they wear sneakers or shoes.

Footprints in the beach sand…

The ocean waves beat relentlessly on the rocks, smoothing them over time. But if you decide to walk barefoot, be careful of shells, which can be sharp.

One of the things I love about summer is a walk on the beach. One of the things I don’t love about summer is a walk on the beach when it is crowded!

So I set out early this morning to go for a quiet and FREE walk on the beach, before they start charging $10-$15 to park.

There were some clouds this morning, but it was quite pleasant. When I arrived and started my walk, I saw one woman all set up, enjoying the quiet time, along with a few joggers.

The Beach is Quiet if You Go Early

As three joggers passed me, the sun began to break through the clouds.

There were some kayakers out on the water, and one lone kayak still on the beach…maybe someone didn’t show up?

Even the seagulls seemed to be enjoying their solitary time.

By the time I finished my walk, there were more people staking out their spots for the day. It was low tide and experienced beach-goers know that when the tide comes in, there will be very little sand left, so they pick a spot by the sea wall. Maybe they went to get coffee or breakfast???

This week’s photo challenge topic is infinite. There’s nothing that says infinite to me more than the beach on a cloudy day…the water and sky almost become one.

This photo challenge is courtesy of Jakesprinter.

These photos represent three different bodies of water with three different colors.

I saw this turtle fountain at the Tower Hill Botanical Garden.

The second photo is a river with a waterfall: it is Cumberland Falls in Kentucky. It was an overcast day. This waterfall is famous because it actually gives off a rainbow in the moonlight!

The third photo is the ocean. It must have been high tide…not much beach; everyone is crowded up on the rocks.

Memorial Day weekend…thus begins another summer. First we visited my father’s grave; he is buried in a veteran’s section. Volunteers put flags on all the graves.

Then we made the mistake of going to the beach on a whim…at 1:00 in the afternoon on Memorial Day weekend? And you thought there would be a parking space? $20.00…are you serious???

Ok…so we found a free space when someone pulled out. OMG…look at the beach…

Guess I’ll just take a couple of pictures and we’ll get out of here…

Summer has begun…
